"I have always returned on a regular basis to the design of boxes. I enjoy the change in scale. It's a good way to explore new ideas before moving on to the large projects. These two are based on a Chinese scroll box in the Philadelphia Museum of fine arts collection. I was attracted to the sweep of the sides with the larger volume in the center. The curved seam line demands custom hinges. When the lid is open the hinges act as the stop as the top drops back away from the form. Inside is a small removable tray, which is standard in my box designs."
