Macasser ebony veneer, solid ebony (door pulls) Mahogany (interior:
dark stain), silk glass, and Halogen lighting. This object is about volume and the perception of interior space.
The ebony provides a strong and defined feeling to the exterior
form. The silk glass cuts into this form both front and back allowing
light to pass directly through the form. Silk glass is a water
white glass with a very fine acid etching which gives the glass
unique diffusion quality. Objects when placed up close to the glass
can be seen clearly, however as the object moves away from the
glass it softens dramatically making the object seem future back
in space than it really is. This allows for the interior of the
case to seem greater in depth than it really is and yet the form
is pierced with translucency making its mass seem lighter.
