Sitka spruce, white oak, synthetic rice paper, glass
This object was deigned with
the intention of participating in a refined country environment.
The case is intended to seem to float effortlessly above its legs
structure.
The Sitka and oak are both referential to the country aesthetic,
and the quality of the synthetic rice paper fits this feeling as
well. It is designed to act as a sideboard but has additional storage
for stemware. The interior has three drawers for flat ware and
a glass shelf for the stems. Beyond these functional concerns is
the way in which this object interacts with light. The top is a
large oval of beveled glass famed in wood so that ambient light
can enter the case and therefore create a glowing quality upon
the rice paper that makes up the case. This quality not only gives
the object warmth, but also reinforced the sense of floating that
is so important in the definition of its personality.
