Designed 1985
14"W-5"D-72"L
Aluminum, lenses, halogen source, cooling fan, steel cable, gray
automotive lacquer This is a wall suspended unit. The light source is housed in the
top. The light focused through a series of lenses into a very tight
collimated beam, the same way a slide projector works. This beam
shoots down through a series of plates with the focal point being
the floor. Each plate has a space cut out in it, each being progressively
smaller from top to bottom. Each plate catches and reflects a small
percentage of the beam and reflects it back into the enviorment.
The design of the object is based on the manipulation of light.
The form of the physical object is based on how to make the light
take shape.
I have always envisioned two of these units on each side of an
entrance, or one unit at the end of a long hallway. They seem to
act as markers, objects that define an area, as well as a means
to general illumination.
