Tripod Lamps...
  Designed 1996
30"W-30"W-78"H

Maple, cast bronze, halogen pin spot, tubular incandescent.

I always envisioned these objects in a large loft environment. They offer two systems of lighting. The first is the pin spot located at the center of the bronze plate pointing downwards. The idea is that something would occupy the space between the legs of the tripod, plants, sculpture, a bowl of fish, whatever. The pin spot is focused to highlight this area with very little light bleeding outside the defined area. The second type of illumination comes from three one hundred watt incandescent bulbs mounted inside the top of the bronze plate. These sources throw a good deal of warm light up into the space reflecting off the ceiling and providing a lot of warm indirect lighting into the room. The underside of the bronze plates is smooth in texture near the outside edges but this surface becomes rougher progressively as it moves towards the center of the form. This sets of more contrast between the bronze and the smooth wood but also allows for the patina quality to be more rich and varied. In the objects represented I choose not to hide the electric cords but to celebrate them, this is not required in future units.
