Blue velvet, rosewood veneer.

The goal of this design was to create that had a visual lightness on the front and a feeling of mass and volume from the rear view. This was achieved buy setting up a cantilevered base, allowing the front area to open up revealing a dance of lines under the shape of the upholstery above. More importantly is the play of the two materials working with each other, soft with hard, line and plane with volume and form, polished wood grain with soft texture and color giving this object its personality. It is intentionally large enough to seat four comfortably and also allow one to sleep stretched out.
