Shield Back Chairs...
    46"W-18"D-30"H
Designed 1982

Lacquer over ply with solid exotic wood leg structure.

These chairs have been produced in various combinations from a high polish black lacquer with a bark solid wood, to a soft light gray lacquer with a bleached maple legs. These chairs are part of the Los Angles county museum of fine art as well as the Cooper Hewitt museum of design in New York City.
The concept behind them is to have an occasional chair that creates a sense of space especially when grouped. In this way they create a low partial wall that defines an area. I envision them used in a large room where smaller sub area areas desired. Buy this means a type of intimacy can be achieved without removing the people from the larger whole.
