Black lacquer, ebonized mahogany base
There have been quite a few variations on this theme. The slated
tables are about creating rhythm and translucency without using
a glass surface. The slates are spaced so that a Champaign flute
will always be stable on the surface. The object is a statement
of structure, with its large cantilevered surface reaching out
into space. Each slat is tapered and shaped and brought to a high
polish in black lacquer. This quality of surface allows for a shimmer
of light across the surface with deep reflections, and shadows
all reinforcing the visual impact of the object.
